Pre-U Seminar and Debates and Maggie Noodles

Yay! I got into Pre-University Seminar. And Martin aka Ken got in too! I wondered if Ken prepared. Because if he improvised it and faced the teachers without a script, he just earned a lot of respect from me. ^^ Zoey and Clarissa did not make it. :( Everything is always double the fun with friends. Practically everyone are unfamiliar faces. I guess I can make new friends and widen my personal social circle.

Not a good start to Pre-U Sem because I missed the briefing. I was collecting the physics homework from my classmates and did not make it there. So Sue Ann (fellow debater) had to inform me about my presentation grouping.

I am with Roshan and Mary-Ann. Roshan is from KI, but I have not met Mary-Ann yet.

So I inquired to what the task is and it seemed to be a 20 minutes presentation (Powerpoint and the works) on our topic which vary by groups. 20 minutes. 20 whole minutes. I hope my rambling comes in useful in the upcoming presentation. There are 5 groups in total (I think) and the best team get to present it to all the JCs, polytechnics and IP school represenatives that will be there. Plus the Guest Of Honour will be there. Which will make it doubly stressful. I cant wait for it though. I hope my group wins.

I need to also get ready for more sleepless nights as I juggle CCA, vigour of a science combi (is arts combi or science combi more hectic? I have plenty of homework though) and preparation for the presentation. Not to mention I reach home at 7 daily.

 But I like it. CJC has a really nice community (eg. lotsa really cool bloggers) and I like how the programs in CJC are able to give a good work-play balance. I shall always miss my alma mater though. Victoria School really gave me such a good time. And my best friends were all there for me when I need them. Thanks, Jun Yin, Jia Hao and Ting Yao.

"PM Lee outlines 4 key challenges for SIngapore at Pre-University Seminar 2010"  The link above shows a Channelnewsasia article I read about Pre-U Sem. My seniors said  there are debates with the representatives from other institutions and field trips to various parts of  Singapore. Woot.

Another article that shows student views on Pre-U Seminar. This means I am already excited even though it is 3 months away. :D


That was yesterday. Today was debates. Though I wasnt one of the team (the team were made up of J2s), I learnt so much about debates. So. Much. I listened and try to learn from our school debaters and ACJC debaters. The adjucator gave the match to ACJC. >.< It was sad, but frankly speaking, Clarissa and I guessed the results even before the debate ended. I heard them both and the ACJC team manged to convince me of their stand, more so than our school. It was painfully obvious they had more examples. From what I heard, the ACJC team trained really hard till 9pm everyday.

Hardwork is the essence of success so kudos to their school. We drew really good schools so kudos to our team for trying their best too. The schools we draw: ASCI, ACJC, Dunman High and Hwa Chong (Chinese High) There were other schools there- United World College, Victoria Junior College, Serangoon JC, Yishun JC, Jurong JC, Millenia Institue, National JC, Teamasek JC...to name a few. This means I get to see debaters I probably will be against in this year and the next.

The most interesting thing about the whole day was the lunch. We ate instant noodles at Cheers outlet at Buona Vista MRT. o.0 Time constraint and all that. We feared we will not have the time to watch the finals hence the noodles. Again, o.0. And it was Speaker's Ink first outing. Really memorable. :D Seriously speaking, I wouldnt have it any other way. We should make it a tradition and do that to our juniors next year.

We lost but it was a really good learning experience on the J1's parts. The adjucator (judge) is the one in the middle.

 What's more, I met my old classmate, Jun yin. One of my best friends AND desk mate. My mouth is skewed because I had 2 eclairs in my mouth. Because I was at tea reception when I noticed him.The blur at the right side of the photo is my hand. Heh.

Last thing, a quick food review on Mogu Mogu.

The Mogu Mogu

When buying this drink, I embarrassed myself quite badly.

Girl: Auntie, I want a Mogu Mogu.

Me: *Listening and watching* 

~My turn~

Me: Err...auntie, I want a "Muku Muku".

Girl: *laugh and walks away* 

Auntie: *Laugh and got the "Muku Muku" for me*

The Mogu Mogu is cute because it is small, so I thought they would charge 90 cents or 80 cents. Nope, it still cost a dollar but it tasted like 10 cents (Exaggerating). I felt the grape taste was too little. It felt kinda...diluted. It was still sweet, but I dont really taste the grapes as much as I would in a conventional grape-favoured drink. The Nata de coco portion is okay, suitable for anyone who like small chewy bits. I am not sure about this drink. It really is up to one's preference.

The weak taste could be because of the "10% grape". Does the company even need to announce the (small) percentage of grape juice on the front of the bottle? Anyway, I thought the drink was diluted even before I noticed the small print of "10%".

Signing off. I resolve to trial for Rockafella next year- just so I can stop singing in the bath and sing on the stage. :)
