The pressure is already there. On the first day, no less. And it actually gets worse/more interesting (the latter for any CJC debaters reading my blog).
Mr. Wee and Ms. De Souza clarified that each of us would have to specialise in either Public Speaking OR Debating. I chose debates without knowing that the J2s were training for the Singapore Red Cross- University Michigan Alumni (Singapore) International Humanitarian Law Debate Series 2011.
So we sort of joined them. Since most of the J1s chose Public Speaking, the 2 J1s and me trooped to another room along with the J2s. And I found out again that the J1s had prior experience in debates. And I was the only rookie. (How did I pass the trials again? Since so many failed to get through)
The training started with all of us (J2s included) being split up to two teams. The Opposition and the Preposition. (Essentially the "yes" team and "no" team) And the motion: This house believes that amnesty should be granted to Head of States if they give up their position voluntarily.
I was dumbfounded. I mean, I debated before in the Inter-Class in my old school (Which doesnt count as prior experience) But those were topics about handphones, abortion, euthanasia. So pardon my expression, but I didnt know shit about stuffs such as amnesty.
I wont speak more about the debate (3 vs 3) since the motion was actually the actual motion for that Red Cross' debate. We prepared for it and we are not supposed to reveal it before the competition (Not like any ACJCians will view my blog.)
Debates ended at 7.15. YES: a FULL one hour (and 15 min) after the stipulated time. Actually I didnt really mind. It was fun, intellectually challenging and hey, the girls there are really pretty. *Grin* And I found a senior that I can use as a role model. He was offered THREE H3 subjects. Seems like the requirement to be offered one is two distinctions in any other subjects and a distinction for the subject in H3. So three distinction needed in total. And many of the debaters went for the REACH Cambridge program. Which is only given to top students in CJC. AND the top ELL student in CJC is also in Speaker's Ink. Which make us one of the top CCA in terms of academic results.
Pressure mounts on.
For those taking Project Work in CJC (Which just means every J1s in CJC), the debaters will be trained to coach the PW leaders in presentation skills. Which means I might just be coaching you. (Amy, Adeeb, Yumi, Zoey...whoever reading my blog) And you readers will have
I kind of dread weekends now, since school is really a lot of fun. I have too much time on my hand during Sat and Sun. So mainly it's just me mugging alone at home (I know, I have no life) I chanced on a company called Adult Swim, which mainly create Iphone games for adults due to nudity and gory details. And I tried out Amateur Surgeon created by them.
And now I am hooked.
Objective is to pull out those glasses before he bleed to death. |
So you are a pizzaboy and your hobby is amateur surgery. And I love it. Simply an awesome game. And the storyline is just plain retarded. Which means I love it even more.
Introduction |
Did I mention you operate on a snooker table with a pizza cutter instead of a scapel? So for those who do not want to waste their money on this game, you can play it here. And for fans, there is a sequel.
Another thing I am addicted on- a yogurt drink I tried in CJC. I think I will start a food column in my blog posts starting from now. About food and beverages in CJC. And if I like the reactions from my classmates who read this, then I will create a page in this blog dedicated to this. Since my blog is too short anyway. Amy makes me embarrassed with her extremely long, weighty and interesting blog posts.
Cost $1.20. Wish it could be a buck. |
And I found that CJC have many superb studying corners. This one I am showing (The one at the Grandstand) is really quiet and breezy. Or you could take naps there during those breaks. I did my homework there yesterday. Shiok (Singlish, I know)
Peace at about 11am |
Moving on on my final topic to ramble about. Amy wrote a post about Boys (Yes, about us). So there she was describing about 7 males she knew of. And of course I had to read it. (Since there could something about me)
I ended up not as " the handsome one" nor "the cute one", and (thanks goodness) not "the asshole". I ended up as "one of those two guys that are not stalkers".
At least I was labelled "interesting" and "smart.
But damn. I so wanted to be that "cute/handsome" one. :)

My dear, to be cute, you have to open up a little bit more :)
Personality-cuteness is more important than physical-cuteness.
And I'm a rambler. Most of what I say is quite unnecessary.
Ooh you're going to be a connoisseur!
You're too damn awesome. I'ld give up
two bucks to be half as awesome as you(hey, two bucks is a lot ok...think of the poor in Africa)...
Woohoo!!!...can't wait for you to coach me xD...
